Off to a Great Start!

Today is the tenth day of school, and I must say we are off to a great start!  During the first week of school, students learned the classroom and school expectations.  They learned how to demonstrate responsibility, respect, and a care for others.  They continue to show great character each day, and I am so proud of them for that!

I have learned so much about my students during the past two weeks.  I have learned that my students want more than crafts or drawing and coloring.  During the first week of school,  I often heard the comments, "Do I have to color? Do I have to draw a picture?" My students are eager to learn and are ready to be challenged.  My students love group time, especially math groups.  Students got to play math games the first week of school to learn how to work together.  I got to walk around the classroom and watch students play and learn at the same time.  I was happy to see the excitement on students' faces as they rolled the dice and moved their game piece along a hundreds chart.  My students love to play games and learn at the same time...I will work hard to provide this opportunity to them.  In reading, we started reading the book, Fudge-a-Mania.  My students seem to really be enjoying this challenging text as they giggle during certain parts of the book.  We still have many pages to go, but I can tell my students are really going to like this book.  I also want to commend my super spelling students.  The whole class did a remarkable job on the first spelling test.

In just a short time, my students have had many accomplishments.  I look forward to watching my students grow academically as they continue to show great character throughout the school year.
